Is there a suitable substitute for pine nuts in the apple strudel recipe? I live in a small town in Texas and have not found them in stores. Can you describe their flavor? Thank you.

Hi,

Pine nuts are also called pine kernels and you can buy them on the internet from deli shops specialising in Italian food or health food shops. These little kernels are harvested from a type of pine tree called "maritime pine" (Pinus pinaster) which is quite common along the mediterranean cost. Probably, there could be some chance of finding this type of tree on the US west coast (California?). However, you can replace them using roughly crushed wall nuts.

Good luck
