Fried Pastry with Chocolate, Chestnuts, Pignola... 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
My Grandmother made a dessert for Christmas that I will never forget, but I never got the recipe.
The dough seemed to be the same as the Struffoli dough but rolled out flat and filled like ravioli's, but then the ends were cut and the final product looked like a sunburst. Inside the dough she would put melted dark chocolate, chestnuts that had been boiled, citron, pine nuts, cinnamon. I don't know what other ingredients were in it, but it was delicious. She would then fry the chocolate ravioli's and dip them in honey. I remember my mother would sometimes bake instead of fry, but they were not the same. I believe they called these pastries Basta dela, but I may be mistaken. Doesn someone know of such as recipe they may share.
Thanks
Denise

Dear denise,

The dessert you are describing is from the Cilento region, near Salerno. There are many names: "o cazunciell" or "calzoncelli" or "pasticelle" or "ravioli di castagne"; however I have never made it so I cannot help you with the recipe. It is a local delicacy, unknown to those who, like me, are not from that area. I just hope someone can help you with this and post the recipe in this forum.

Good luck
Federico
